Destin Snowbird Club opens 'The Roost' at Destin Community Center with a musical bash
After a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the “The Roost” of the Destin Snowbird Club on Monday at the Destin Community Center, the group gathered again Tuesday for their first meeting.
Sputzy Sparacino opened the Destin Snowbird Club entertainment season with songs from the 1970s and '80s.
Sputzy, a Pittsburgh R&B session singer and musician played the kind of music that got the snowbirds' feet stompin,' their hands clappin' and memories spinning.
“No matter your mood ... you can't help but love the music,” a snowbird said.

The club has already registered more than 140 members, with the big registration to be held in January.
Last year the club welcomed 1,300 snowbirds.
“We want to make that bigger,” Snowbird Club President Ken Campbell said Tuesday morning.
During the meeting, Campbell welcomed the new and returning snowbirds, outlining events and activities for the coming season.
